Adding printers to Windows PCs and Macs

For Macs:

If using wifi, make sure you are connected to FHU, the secure wireless on campus.  FHU_Guest will not access printers.

Open System Preferences - Printers & Scanners

Click the + sign in the lower left corner to add a new printer.

When the Add Printer dialog box appears, choose the globe looking icon from the top of the window.

In the Address: field, type print.campus.fhu.edu

Protocol: needs to be Line Printer Daemon - LPD

Queue: will be the print queue on the Print server.  Please see the list below the instructions for the Printer in your area..

By default, the Name: field will be the same as the Address: field.  You can rename if needed.

Please fill out the Location: field with building, floor, and department.

By default, the Use: field will choose the Generic PostScript Printer as the software driver.  Change this to the Generic PCL Printer option.

The Generic PCL Printer driver will provide almost all printing functions.  

Click Add at the bottom right corner.

You should now see your new printer listed in the Printers & Scanners window.

Print a test page to verify the connection to the printer.

For Windows PCs:

Click on the Start button and type Printers.  You should see the option for Printers and Scanners.  Click to open.

In the dialog box that opens, choose Add a printer or scanner

Click the blue link that says ‘The printer that I want isn’t listed’

Click the radio button to the left of ‘Select a shared printer by name’

Type \\print.campus.fhu.edu\Print Queue Name.  The print queues for campus are listed below these instructions, so choose the queue for your area.

Click Next to begin adding the printer.  The software and driver will begin to download for your printer.

You will see this message when the printer has been successfully installed.

Click the ‘Print a test page’ button to send a test page to the newly installed printer.

Once the test page has been successfully printed, click Finish.

You will now see the printer in your Printers & Scanners list.

FHU Print server is Print.campus.fhu.edu
